You don't know me, but your family has been on my mind and in my prayers ever since I heard of this terrible, terrible incident. I am especially heartsick because I have a kind-hearted son of the same age and can see him doing the same thing to assist others in need. I am glad to see that you are a family of faith and that Justin knew the Lord. May He grant you strength and peace until you see your wonderful boy again. He is not alone - and neither are you!
As a fellow NMU alumni - please know the heroism your son showed, in time of need, was what we all hope we too would do...but never know if we'd have the courage! He must have been a terrific man with great courage & helping spirit! You raised him well! May he rest peacefully in God's Kingdom & may he continually leave you signs that he is indeed still right with you! Peace to you all!
To Justin's family:
I am sooooo terribly sorry for the loss of this precious, wonderful, young man that was a part of your lives. I had the honor of working with Justin the past two tax seasons at Wipfli LLP in Rhinelander. He was the kind of person you could tell made "good choices." He had so much to offer this world! I'm trying to understand God's plan right now. My condolences to Justin's family and Suzy, who he mentioned frequently, for a life cut short for reasons we will never know until we get there ourselves. God's Peace to each and every one of you. ~Elaine Thorn
We are so very sorry for your loss. What a wonderful young man Justin was. He will be missed by all. We will keep you all in our thoughts & prayers.
Kevin and Family, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I will keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers.
I didn't know Justin personally, but I work at the Wipfli office in Appleton. My heart breaks for you. The women's Bible study group I attend is praying for your families. We take comfort in knowing that Justin is with our Lord. We know that a day is coming when 'He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.' (Rev. 21:4) We hope that you, too, will find comfort in this promise. May God wrap you in His loving arms.

Connie and Kevin I did not get to spend a lot time with Justin only at some family gatherings and he always had that smile and always had something nice to say a very nice young man. I didn't know Justin but I read about his heroic rescue attempt in the news. Reading his obituary and learning about the type of person he was is heart breaking - he sounded like an amazing young man. My sympathy and prayers for his family and friends.
My name is Paul Covert and I don't know your son but I know he is a hero. As I understand the events that occurred,Justin died trying to save my daughters best friends life - Kaylie. He must have known the risk he was taking when he chose to enter the water in an attempt to save Kaylie and her friend. It appears his dedication to doing the right thing, even at his own peril is engrained in who he is. He is a very, very brave young man and someone I will never forget. I would hope my son would be as brave as Justin but no one knows how they will react until the moment occurs. In Justin's case, when he saw an opportunity to help - he acted and did his best to save a couple people he didn't even know.
Wonderful caring person and a real hero. Thinking of his family and loved ones at this very difficult time. Sonya Freeman-Linna Marquette, Michigan
Solin and Schroepter families, please know you are in our thoughts and prayers. We are all so deeply shocked and saddened of Justin's passing - yet not at all surprised of his selfless act. We had the honor and pleasure of getting to know Justin through the Solin family and Northern Michigan University Volleyball. We spent many memorable weekends with Justin, Suzy, Kathy & Don in Marquette - and Justin's smile and kindness will never be forgotten.

I only met Justin once and he was a chip off the old block. You could just tell how sincere and kind he was which is no surprise given how he was raised and who his parents are. it's a horrible shame that he has been taken from us but we will never forget his legacy of selflessness and compassion. A true disciple of Christ. God's peace to his family and the Solin family.

He was way to young and so heroic!
