Robert Mader, of Antigo, died Friday, February 5, 2016 at Eastview Medical and Rehabilitation Center. He was 88 years old. He was born on September 30, 1927 in Antigo, a son of Oliver and Besse (Cherf) Mader. He married Agnes Bloechl on October 11, 1949 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Antigo. She survives.
He was a graduate of Antigo High School with the class of 1945.
He was drafted into the United States Army in 1945 and was stationed in Japan for over a year before receiving his discharge in 1947. As a WWII veteran he had the privilege of participating on the Never Forgotten Honor Flight.
For 28 years he worked as a sales manager at the Montgomery Wards store in Antigo until the store closed in 1977. For nine years he worked at Antigo Co-op Hardware retiring in 1992.
He was a member of SS Mary and Hyacinth Catholic Church.
His hobbies included fishing, bird hunting and gardening.
Survivors including his wife are three daughters, Judith (James) Wieser of McHenry, Illinois, Susan (Dennis) Mosher of Forest Lake, Minnesota, Mary (Paul) McDougal of Schofield; son, Michael (Mary) Mader of Eagle River; nine grandchildren Jennifer (Tim) Dutcher, James (Melanie) Wieser, Kevin (Abby) Mosher, Heather (Mike) Mock, Lisa and Amy Mader, Megan, Caitlin and Devin McDougal; seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Maurice (Jo) Mader, and step-mother, Leone Mader.
The funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at SS Mary & Hyacinth Catholic Church with Rev. David Schmidt officiating. Antigo Veterans will conduct military rites following services at the church. Entombment will take place in Queen of Peace Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday and 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday both at the Bradley Funeral Home. A parish wake service will be held at 5:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
