LaVerne Bailey, of Antigo, died Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at Langlade Hospital. She was 96 years old. She was born on February 28, 1918 in Milwaukee, a daughter of Holace and Freida (Fritzche) Lawrence. She married Herbert Bailey on July 22, 1940 at St. Ambrose Episcopal Church in Antigo. He preceded her in death on August 5, 1966.

She moved to Antigo as an infant and was a graduate of Antigo High School with the class of 1936.

Mrs. Bailey worked at Weinbrenner Shoe Company factory in Antigo for two years. She was a homemaker most of her life raising her children in Antigo.

She was a member of St. Ambrose Episcopal Church, the St. Therese Guild and Episcopal Church Women. She enjoyed crocheting, playing cards, reading, canning, cooking and baking.

Survivors include two daughters, Denise Bailey, Antigo, Lori (Fred) Joyce, Lena; a close friend Barb Rebstock, Antigo; two dauthers-in law, Sandy (Dennis) Dugan, New Berlin and Jennifer Bailey, Antigo; two sisters-in-law, Lynna and Shirley Lawrence; ten grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by three sons Michael, Timothy and Peter Bailey; three brothers Jarvis, David and Darrell Lawrence; a sister Fern Bailey.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Bradley Funeral Home. Visitation will be Saturday from 12 noon until the time of services.
